Coming up: The Snakes visit Knoxville today at 7:35 p.m. Radio: WEAM-AM 1580 Where they stand: Columbus is 4-3-1 and in third place with 9 points, 11 behind first-place Huntsville. Hail and Farewell: Seeking more power, coach Jerome Bechard released forward Mark Stockdale on Monday and brought in Steve Jensen on Wednesday. Jensen played 49 games for two Central Hockey League teams last season, compiling a total of 10 points and 36 penalty minutes. Jensen was signed to a three-game tryout and Daryl Moor to a regular contract on Wednesday. Defenseman Jason Schulz is recovering from a painful but not serious injury and is day-to-day. Moment of Truth: Currently the Snakes have four games in the win column. Three have come over last-place Twin City and the other was a very early 2-1 victory over Knoxville. The Ice Bears have made a number of roster moves and are a much-improved team than the one the Snakes beat on Oct. 25. Sunday’s win over the Cyclones was the most complete effort the team has put forth this season. The Cottonmouths enjoyed solid goaltending, played sturdy defense and scored a pair of power-play goals. They’ll need all of those elements tonight in Knoxville, historically one of their least favorite places to play. Scouting Report: The Ice Bears and Snakes are both utilizing a job-share approach with their goaltenders. Incumbent Kirk Irving, who led Knoxville to the league championship last season, has been in net for four games as has newcomer Andrew Gallant. Gallant lost his first game before reeling off three straight victories. His league-leading goals-against average is a sparkling 2.25. Irving, 2-1-1, has the league’s fourth best GAA at 2.50. The Snakes have rotated the more experienced Chad Rycroft and second-year goalie Ian Vigier. So far Vigier has outperformed Rycroft, allowing 10 goals in four games to 17 for Rycroft. The Ice Bears have a potent offense led by four-time SPHL scoring champion Kevin Swider. Swider’s 15 points are four behind league leader Karlis Zirnis of Huntsville. Also in the top 10 in scoring is B.J. Pelkey, who is tied for fourth with 13 points. Tim Green is the Snakes’ leading scorer with 9 points.
