Head earns ACCC honors
By David Ching - Staff Writer --
The most successful sophomore class in Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball history produced a plethora of postseason awards.
The Pirates, who tied the school’s single-season record for wins (41) both this season and last, finished with a CVCC two-year record of 82 victories. Four sophomores, all of whom have already signed with four-year schools for next season, picked up postseason honors.
Pitcher David Head, an Alabama signee, was named to the first-team All-Alabama Community College Conference squad and won first-team All-Southern Division honors as well. Head went 8-3 this year with a 2.83 ERA and finished his CVCC career as the school’s all-time leader in games started.
Center fielder Alex Montes was second-team All-ACCC, first-team All-Southern Division and was an all-tournament honoree. The Central-Phenix City grad batted .411 and set a school record with 92 hits. The Columbus State signee owns CVCC records in career and single-season at-bats, career and single-season runs and single-season hits.
Right fielder Wes Adkins broke the school record with 19 home runs and finished the year as a first-team All-Southern Division honoree. The CSU signee batted .325 and also led the league in homers, along with 67 runs and 68 RBIs.
Finally, Tristan Farrell made second-team All-Southern Division as a utility player after a strong season on the mound and at the plate. The Alabama-Birmingham signee went 9-3 to rank second in the ACCC in wins and also batted .330 with six homers and 49 RBIs.
