About a week before Thanksgiving, the marquee in front of Georgia Bariatrics advised us “leftovers should be passed over.”

This is for the reader who took issue with Saturday’s column, “Parents, remain alert,” advising parents that family get-togethers during the holidays provide perfect opportunities for children to be molested.

While parents and other adults are eating, drinking and making merry between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, they should watch out for the children because more than likely someone else is doing just that.

Community safety should be the goal of sex offender legislation. But that doesn't seem to be the case as we continually revisit Georgia's sex offender laws, which some brag are among the toughest in the country.

I had serious problems with Sarah Palin being one heartbeat away from the Oval Office. But Republican powers-that-be should be tarred and feathered for their treatment of her.

Barack Obama definitely did not approve most of the text messages I received Election Night -- especially the one about the bottled water and salty crackers.

As we countdown to election, most talk centers around who voted early and how long they had to wait -- or in some instances – if they waited at all. Some people actually went from one polling place to another in search of the shortest line. Some people eventually gave up and will take their chances Tuesday.

We only have to look at headlines — especially recent ones — to see that firearms are still the leading cause of domestic violence deaths in Georgia:

On June 5 in LaGrange, police say Jaquavious Tucker went to Ashley Bruce’s apartment. An argument ensued. Bruce, Tucker’s ex-girlfriend, went inside her apartment and locked the door. She then went to the living room window and told Tucker to leave. The argument escalated. Tucker pulled out a handgun and fired several shots in the air. He then pointed the weapon at Bruce and fired two shots through the open window. One shot hit her in the left hand and right side of her chest.
